New England Patriots Blog
New England Patriots derive its name from the contribution made by Boston in the American Revolution. Playing in Gillette Field, Massachusetts in red, blue, silver and white, this East Division AFC team became authorized in 1960. Despite a winning record in the second season, the team kept on an uphill battle for a long time. Luck didn’t even change on joining NFL (1970) or changing the name from the original Boston Patriots the next year.
The lean phase didn’t really wash out in the coming decades with rare wins. However, in 2002, the patriots engineered a series of upsets including thrashing the St. Louis Rams and carried on with their performance in 2004 ending up with the second longest winning streak in the history of NFL.
